Volunteers help council to keep Wiltshire’s libraries open
All of Wiltshire’s libraries will remain open thanks to the hundreds of volunteers who have come forward to help the council safeguard the library service.
At a time when some local authorities are closing libraries due to government cuts, Wiltshire Council has remained committed to safeguarding all 31 of the county’s libraries, ensuring they remain at the heart of local communities.
Following a major review of the library service, Wiltshire libraries’ new opening hours will start from Monday, 5 September.
All five of its mobile routes will continue to take the service to the county’s most rural communities and with help from more than 300 volunteers the 10 smallest libraries will also remain open.
Deputy leader of the council, John Thomson, said: “I would like to thank local people who have played a huge part in helping to keep all our libraries open. It is wonderful our libraries are so well supported and I hope people continue to use the excellent facilities which they offer.”
Library customers can find details of the new opening hours for their library on the Wiltshire Council website at www.wiltshire.gov.uk/libraries
Bookmarks giving details of the new opening times will also be available from all libraries.
