Wrens Shop
Background
The Post Office at East Knoyle closed at the end of February
2004. The community and parish council decided to create a
community post office and shop. The shop opened on 23rd June
2006, the Post Office on 13th July and was officially launched
by
Terry Pratchett on 5th August 2006*.
It is run completely by volunteers and operates as an
Industrial Provident Society with shares and membership held by
about 300 members of the community. This allows them to vote on
the membership of the Management Board and also on which
community projects profits can be spent on. The shop is built on
parish owned land on the site which has the bus shelter,
adjacent to the war memorial.
You can find many local and regional produce and all at very
advantageous prices. |
